I never knew my dad. He died when I was young. I had a stepdad I didn't like. He never molested me, but he would give me spankings and locked me in a bathroom one time. He had a temper and yanked a headband off of my head. I would sulk and told myself that when I grew up, I would never have a relationship with a man. I had resentment towards the thought of having to dress for a man, etc. I didn't understand why men had to be the way they are..insensitive, etc. Many women have experienced much worse..extremely worse scenarios with their fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, etc than I have. Many have been raped on a regular basis by those so called father figures in their lives. As a result, they have damaged emotions and views towards men.
One day I was thinking about things, and God brought Abishag to my mind. Abishag was the girl, who was David's last wife. Actually, he never 'knew' her...never had sexual relations with her. David was old and couldn't keep warm, so those around him decided to search thru the Land for a beautiful maiden who would keep him warm at night and serve him. I used to think..that's stupid...doesn't he have his other wives to keep him warm? But God spoke to my mind and told me to look up the meaning of her name. Abishag. Abi..is my father in Hebrew...i recognize that right off. I looked it up and there it was "Father given to error". I realize that God was showing me that Abishag never had that healthy father figure either. God showed me that David became that Godly father figure to Abishag and thru serving David, she saw a true father figure in David that she never had with her birth father. Abishag also probably brought comfort to David, in view of his past mistakes with his sin with Bathsheba and his daughter being raped by his son, etc. David is also a pic of Messiah Yeshua. he loves those of us women like Abishag who never had a good father figure in our lives and He will bring healing and restoration in our lives where our bad father figures left a void.
